On Wednesday evening, Guo'an FC secured their first win of the Chinese Super League season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Beijing Guoan at the Workers Stadium.
The match was a closely contested affair throughout, with both sides creating numerous opportunities to score. However, it was Guo'an who broke the deadlock in the 47th minute through a goal from substitute defender Liang Jie.
Beijing Guoan responded quickly though and equalized just three minutes later thanks to a penalty awarded for handball by Guo'an's goalkeeper. The home side were then able to take the lead again in the 68th minute when midfielder Wang Weiqiang scored his first goal since joining the club.
However, Guo'an refused to give up and managed to level the scores once more in the 89th minute through a penalty kick from substitute forward Zhang Zhenpeng.
With the match going into extra time, Guo'an continued to press for an equalizer but Beijing Guoan held on for a narrow victory. It was a tough game for both teams, but Guo'an will be delighted with their first win of the season and will hope to build on this result as they continue to compete in the top tier of Chinese football.
