Bayern Leverkusen secured their second Bundesliga victory of the season on Sunday night as they defeated TSG Hoffenheim 2-1 in a closely contested match at the Allianz Arena.
The result came after a thrilling opening half where both teams had chances to score. In the first period, Hoffenheim's forward duo of Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer were particularly impressive, but neither could find the back of the net.
In the second half, Bayern took control of the game. Thiago Alcantara scored the opener for Leverkusen in the 67th minute after being set up by Philipp Lahm. Just two minutes later, Julian Nagelsmann's side doubled their lead when Wirtz equalized from a corner kick.
With Hoffenheim reduced to 10 men following a red card for defender Andreas Kirchner in the 85th minute, Bayern continued to dominate. They eventually sealed the win when Schick netted his second goal of the night in the 94th minute.
This victory moves Bayern up to third place in the league table, just one point behind leaders Bayern Munich. It also gives them a significant boost ahead of their next home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
Hoffenheim, meanwhile, remains fifth in the standings and will look to bounce back in their next away match against Werder Bremen on Wednesday.
