Borussia Dortmund secured their place at the summit of the Bundesliga table after a thrilling 2-1 victory over VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.
The game was filled with drama and excitement from start to finish, with both teams putting in a strong display of footballing ability. The first half saw Dortmund dominate possession and create several chances, but it was Wolfsburg who were able to break the deadlock through a well-taken goal from substitute Yussuf Poulsen.
Dortmund responded immediately though, as Christian Pulisic put them back into the lead with a clinical finish from close range. The American forward had been outstanding throughout the match, and his contribution proved pivotal in securing the three points for the home side.
Pulisic's brace was just one highlight of an excellent performance from Dortmund, who looked comfortable all afternoon despite being down to ten men for much of the second half following the dismissal of defender Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Despite the loss, Wolfsburg were able to hold out until the final whistle, leaving Dortmund with maximum points from their opening six matches of the season.
With the win, Borussia Dortmund have moved up to third place in the league table, just two points behind leaders Bayern Munich. They will now look to build on this result as they continue their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, while Wolfsburg will be looking to bounce back from defeat and regroup ahead of their next fixture.
